Gene Regulation And Mechanism

The structural gene is the gene that codes polypeptide.
In prokaryotic cell, the structural gene is grouped and regulated as a unit.
This is known as operon.
In eukaryotic cell, the gene are express and regulated individually.

Definition of Operon :
Operon is a group of gene in prokaryote that is regulated as a unit.

The operon also consists segment of DNA known as promoter. The promoter is the site for the binding of RNA polymerase enzyme and start the transcription of structural gene.

Experiment of Jacob and Monod

The Jacob and Monod are the first person who studied and understand the regulation mechanism of genes.
They also studied about the synthesis of enzyme in escherica. coli.

Firstly they culture the E.Coli the medium containing glucose as respiration substrate, and then transferred into lactose(glucose absent).
